Knee replacement and knee arthroscopy are two very different procedures, and choosing between them depends on the underlying cause of your symptoms.

Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure using small incisions and a camera to diagnose or treat problems inside the joint. It is highly effective for injuries such as meniscus tears or loose fragments in younger or active patients. However, arthroscopy is not recommended for advanced arthritis — research has shown it provides little benefit once the joint is severely worn.

Knee replacement, on the other hand, is a comprehensive solution for arthritis that affects large areas of the joint. It replaces the damaged surfaces with smooth, durable components, significantly improving pain and mobility.

Choosing the right procedure requires careful assessment. Arthroscopy is ideal for mechanical problems in an otherwise healthy knee. Knee replacement is the best option when arthritis is widespread, mobility is reduced and pain affects daily life.

Understanding the difference ensures you receive the treatment that will give you the best outcome — not just now, but in the long term.
